Shinn Hirayama

Shinn Hirayama is one of the most versatile violinists.  His repertoire ranges from orchestral, operatic works to chamber music and solo. 

He was a contract member for Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, and currently holds principal second violin position at Hamamatsu Philharmonic.  Mr. Hirayama is often invited as guest concertmaster to orchestras around Japan. 

Born in Japan, Mr. Hirayama moved to the United States at age nine.  After finishing primary schools in Oregon, he proceeded to Interlochen Arts Academy before he went on to Mannes College of Music to further his studies in music.

He returned to Japan in 1998 and began his professional career as an orchestral and chamber musician.  In 2001, he was invited to Music Masters Course in Kazusa (MMCK), and in 2004 and 2005, he was invited to join Lucerne Festival Academy under the helm of Pierre Boulez.

Mr. Hirayama's solo performances include concertos by Brahms and Tchaikovsky, as well as contemporary concertos such as Berg and Stravinsky.

In 2015, he formed Trio Musik Keller with his friends, Rintaro Akamatsu (piano) and Tatsuro Terada (cello).  They are currently working on recording all Piano Trios by Joseph Haydn, in cooperation with National Piano Teachers Association (PTNA).

Mr. Hirayama studied with Sally Thomas, Kenji Kobayashi.
